There are several types of dental insurance plans. They include:
• ASO: Administrative Services Only. Full range of administrative services, with optional banking services
• DHMO: Certain carriers offer Dental Health Maintenance Organization (DHMO) approach to dental care. Employees visit network dentists and can choose from a variety of plans and co-payments. Full coverage for routine preventive and diagnostic care is an available option.
• Dual Select Dental: Offers members a choice of two plans – a lower cost option and a higher-cost option – with the administrative ease of one plan
• Indemnity: Traditional fee-for-service plan that provides standard benefits for treatment by any licensed dentist
• MAC Plans: Maximum Allowable Charge (MAC) Plans. Combined with a PPO for in-network savings, a MAC plan limits out-of-network reimbursements to a fee schedule or an optional Usual and Customary schedule
• PPO: Preferred provider organizations or dental health maintenance organizations (DHMO). Both types are considered managed care. Members enjoy lower out-pocket-costs and a choice of network dentists’ locations nationwide.
• Voluntary Dental: PPO, Indemnity, MAC or scheduled plans all backed by full enrollment support, convenient payroll deduction and robust online services — all for little or no premium cost to the employer.
